Overview: Who We Are

A registered charity since 2004, we changed our name from Hackney Business Venture in the year 2000. We first started our work helping and advising all types of enterprise and self-employed people back in 1984. Watch our video here.

We are part of The National Enterprise Network, the national voice of Enterprise, made up of independent agencies that last year supported over 69,000 people considering starting up their own business, and helped over 76,000 existing enterprises. More here.

Our offer is independent, quality assured, client focused consultancy, training, funding and advice. This is designed to help people from Hackney and, where eligible, all over London to start, fund and grow businesses. Click here for more.

We are community based, not for profit and run on commercial lines. We don’t make donations, or pay dividends to shareholders. Instead, we use our reserves to develop and deliver services (starting, funding, growing) to support our mission.

Our funding comes from sponsors, government and fees paid to us by some clients. Read about who we work with here.

Governance – who runs us?

The charity is run by a board of trustee directors, and subject to company law and Charities Commission regulation. Our accounts are externally audited and filed at Companies House every year, and what we do is regularly checked and reviewed by our funders.

Our Commitment to Quality

We are totally committed to quality. We achieve this by being accredited to the standards and bodies shown on our home page. Click there for more information.
